WINCANTON TENNIS CLUB APPOINT NEW COACH
Dan Cahill joined Wincanton Tennis Club in August 2014 as the club's head coach. He is a qualified LTA level 3 coach and has extensive playing and coaching experience.
As a junior player Dan played at the Blackbrook Tennis Academy in Taunton. As a senior, Dan spent a year in the USA as a semi-professional player, before coming back to study a degree in Sports Coaching and Development at the University of St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth. He graduated in 2013 with a 2:1 and has also achieved a Level 2 Fitness Qualification and is first aid trained.
As a tennis coach, Dan has a wide range of experience which he has gained over the last 6 years, most recently as head Tennis Coach at Wellington School, Somerset. He has organised and delivered individual and group/team tennis coaching competitions at Wellington junior and senior schools. Throughtout his time at Wellington Dan coached children of all abilities, ranging from 4 to 18 years. He has also delivered after-school clubs at several primary schools and a secondary, along with tennis and multi-skills summer camps throughtout summer.
Dan's coaching philosophy is reflected in his motto 'maximising potential'. Dan believes that no matter what experience and background a player comes to court with, they should receive coaching which empowers them to become the very best tennis player they can be. Therefore, Dan aims to deliver coaching which is tailored and personalised to suit the experience, needs and aims of the players involved, whether that is in individul coaching sessions or team/group sessions. Inclusitivity is at the very heart of Dan's coaching and he hopes this wil encourage people who have never considered themselves tennis players to pick up a racket and give it a go.
Over his first few months at the club, Dan will be developing a structured and comprehensive coaching programme to suit the wide range of club members and to help welcome new members to the club.
